WTWW: How to Wear Velvet Boots

Hello there lovelies. Thank you for popping by the blog. Fall has finally arrived! We are in the mood for pumpkins, falling leaves, earl grey tea, and big cozy sweaters. Today we are going to talk about velvet. In particular, velvet ankle boots. There is an assumption that this material is only for evening attire, but we assure you that it’s great for daytime too! Take a look at 3 options of velvet boots we have styled for you.

These boots from Hudson are fabulously fun. They collaborated with Liberty London to create a beautiful paisley velvet print. The wood heel adds a finishing touch. We would wear these with our favorite jeans and a motorcycle jacket or embellished jean jacket.

The bold oversized coat is bigger than ever. Whether you are wearing a colorful brocade, quilted, tapestry or heavily embroidered and embellished, the velvet ankle boot is the perfect boot to pair with these fabrications. We would wear our blue re-souL bootie with our favorite statement coat.

Long cardigans and long wool vests are still going strong in fashion. Update your look with a simple black velvet bootie. Perfect with leggings or leather pants, but would also look fantastic with tights and a dress.

What do you think? Ready to try velvet boots? Thanks for stopping by and if you would like to see some other seasonal options for your feet, visit our shop here.

Celebrating Nova

Nova Askue

Anyone who’s been in the shop – over the last 9 years – has probably encountered Nova, she’s the heart and soul of our shop, the very definition of re-souL. Nova came to us right out of college with serious ambition and a mid-west mindset. Turns out, that was the very thing re-souL needed. Nova, for nearly a decade, has set the pace, defined the company and won the hearts of our customers, too many to count.

With a heavy heart, today we announce that Nova is moving on. She and her fiancé Nick are taking their talents to Lopez Island (Washington) to pursue their dream. They are opening a restaurant on Lopez called Ursa Minor! They are on track to open next month.

Many of you have talked with Nova on the phone, met with her in the shop, or know her from other experiences – but let’s just say that no one has ever experienced personal service the way that only Nova can deliver. We ask, have you ever received better honest service from a retailer – ever- than Nova? We didn’t think so.

What you may not know is that Nova has also been the driving force behind our website, our marketing, our social media and everywhere you experience re-souL. Not a single image gets to you without Nova’s approval. So if you’re a fan of our website, our blog, our Facebook, our Instagram, google+, or whatever…. you can thank her for making it happen.

Please know that while the staff at re-souL will miss Nova dearly, we will strive to provide the superior service that makes re-souL famous. Legh, Maggie, Margaret, and Katie have everything it takes. We are fortunate that Nova will still be helping out behind the scenes from time to time while we go through this transition.

Nova’s last day in the shop is Thursday, March 30th. Please consider taking a moment to stop by and wish Nova the best in her new venture.

We love you, Nova! Your hard work and dedication were an integral part of our team and the growth of re-souL. As you turn the page in your life’s story, we join together in wishing you every success in your new endeavor, Ursa Minor!

If you would like to learn more about Ursa Minor on Lopez Island, click here. Follow Ursa Minor’s Instagram account to see the progress they are making for the opening.

Weekend Clothing Drive for YouthCare

youthcare-style-out

A homeless youth is styled for a future interview.

Every year our neighborhood of Ballard does a little something different for Black Friday. Local shops and businesses donate a portion of their Friday sales to a local charity. This will be our second year partnering with YouthCare. In addition to donating 5% of our sales for the day, we will be kicking off a weekend clothing and shoe drive to help collect needed items for homeless youth.

Unfortunately, Seattle is experiencing a rise of homeless people throughout the city. Each night in Seattle, up to 1,000 young people have no safe place to sleep. With over 40 years of experience, YouthCare builds confidence and self-sufficiency for homeless youth by providing outreach, basic services, emergency shelter, housing, counseling, education and employment training.

Facts about Youth Homelessness

• 35,000 students in WA public schools were homeless in the 2014-2015 school year, a 9% increase over 2013-2014

• 40% of homeless youth identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ); many were kicked out for coming out to their parents or guardians.
