Behind The Scenes of Our “Shelley” Shootie

Original Sketch and Prototype of Our Shootie

Ever wonder how a shoe comes to be? It’s not as simple as it seems. A lot of thought and development go into making a shoe. After all, it’s a 3-dimensional object that needs to fit well as well as look good! Other than designing and developing a shoe into a prototype, actual manufacturing of a shoe is really interesting.

Below are photos that were taken at one of the factories we use to make re-souL shoes. We will try and navigate you through the pictures taken at this factory in Peru. This particular style we named the “Shelley”. It’s not quite a shoe and yet not quite an ankle boot, it’s what we like to call a “shootie”.

In these photos above, the pattern of this style, the lining, and the upper materials are sewn together for each size and color. The outside welt that goes around the shoe between the upper and the sole is having glue applied before the lasting of the shoe takes place.

Here we can see the shoes that have been put on the last. The “last” is the form used to give a shoe its shape. You can see the welt and the sole from a side view before the heel block will be attached.

After the shoes come off the last, and the heels have been attached, they await the final stages before boxing them up for shipment. They are cleaned up, waxed, buffed and stuffed with tissue.

Lefts and rights are matched up and the final inspection is done. They are boxed up and ready to be sent to us. We can’t wait!

Proud to Present: Walk by Anat Dahari

We have a new collection in the shop here at re-souL, Walk by Anat Dahari.  Founded in 2011, Walk is the perfect combination of modern minimalism, artisan manufacturing and comfort all in one beautifully designed women’s shoe collection.

Walk shoes are designed primarily for the basic act of walking, hence the name WALK. Anat’s purpose was to create simplified footwear for comfort and softness. Great care is taken in the choice of materials, the manufacturing as well as the packaging.  “I uphold a loyalty to the materials, using the simplicity and rawness of the distressed leather to guide the design process.”, says Dahari.

Anat was trained as an architect and is an alumn of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. After completing her studies she decided to study shoe-making with local artisan craftsmen in Tel Aviv. She found her passion for making shoes. She began designing shoes in the pursuit of working in a hands-on manner with materials. Her designs marry her minimalist style with functionality. She views each shoe as a special object and you can see her architectural influence in each style that she designs.
