Mondays, Maggie Muses: String Art

Hi, I’m Maggie. My husband (Legh) and I own re-souL.   I like to “muse” about things that inspire me.  Especially on Mondays.

“String art” or  “pin and thread art”  has it’s origins in the “curve stitch” which was invented by Mary Everest Boole at the end of the 19th century as a way to make mathematical ideas  more accessible to children.  In the 1960’s it became quite popular and people were able to create their own decorative arts through kits and books.  It has had a sort of resurgence as of late, and I really like way artists are reinventing this medium.

It all started when I saw this picture of Blair and Peter Stocker’s dining room in Apartment Therapy,  it was Vermeer’s “the Girl with the Pearl Earring” replicated in string! Ever since then, I was smitten and have noticed this art form popping up everywhere.  Here are some of my favorites.

Fall Color Story: Forest Green

Forest Green

Lately, we’ve been having a fascination with the color green. Not kelly green, not lime green or mint green (okay, we have been having a thing for mint green too).  No, we’re talking about forest green. You know, the kind of green that you can only find, well in a forest.  It’s a beautiful hue that looks sophisticated with black or dark grey. A nice compliment to cream and ivory. Richly regal with browns, especially cognac or chocolate.  It just simply looks fresh to us. What do you think?

Items from re-souL:
> Vialis “5363″ shootie in forest green, $294, made in Spain
> MTNG “Hydra” suede double zip boot, $148, made in Spain. Call for availability.
> Mywalit “492″ flap pouch with key ring, $36, imported.

Mondays, Maggie Muses: The Color Green

Hi, I’m Maggie. My husband (Legh) and I own re-souL.   I like to “muse” about things that inspire me.  Especially on Mondays.

I know it’s fall and I should be all about orange, reds and yellows. Even though orange is my favorite color,  I have been ogling over green.

Okay, quick story. When I was a child my mom would re-decorate my room every few years.  One year, I picked this beautiful fabric to go with my new rattan bedroom set. It was a small print of green fern leaves on a white background.  I just fell in love with it.  Unfortunately, my mom was a busy lady and we never got around to re-decorating my room.  So maybe my latest fascination with green is more about a childhood dream unfulfilled?  Nah, I think I just like green. Here are some dreamy green images to ogle.
