Mondays, Maggie Muses: Black and White Christmas

I love color! I really do. You should see our home. Not a single white wall. If I can ever keep our house clean enough, I’ll show you and you’ll see that I’m all about the color.

Then I see pictures like these! I sometimes get the itch to go completely neutral like those beautiful Scandinavian apartments and country houses in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. You know the ones. The homes with white walls, big windows, plenty of natural light, and gleaming hardwood floors?

Well, unless Santa decides to bring me a professional paint contractor, (and a housekeeper) this will not be happening anytime soon. I have already painted too many walls in my somewhat short life and it’s not high on my priority list. But still, look at these festive decorations!  Tell me they don’t make you want to decorate in black and white too!

Mondays, Maggie Muses: Paper Holiday Decorations

Tis the season to deck the halls! I love this time of year and I tend to get a little crazy with the decorating. So many great ideas out there on the web and Pinterest!  It makes my head spin. I thought I would stick with the paper theme again this year. I like using paper for decorations because it is relatively inexpensive and can be recycled when the holidays are over. Minimizing waste is always a good thing to do, even during the holidays, don’t you think?

This year in the shop I decided to recycle our paper straw wreaths from last year.  I painted them gold for an update and also made some simple paper ornaments in gold with touches of orange and aqua to hang on our white tree in the shop window.

It is our busiest time of the year, so not a great deal of time for crafting at home, but I like to do what I can .  I thought I would try and make paper decorations and these crafts seem like they would be simple enough to accomplish in a couple of hours.  Even during this season I am a “less is more” kind of gal and I like simple modern accents that can still make a statement. I collected my favorite ideas and hope you will find them inspiring too.

I found this oversized paper garland on the Happy Interior Blog and I absolutely love it. This has inspired me to style out our mantle at home in a similar fashion. I love the scale and the bright colors!

I adore these simple orange neon paper stars I found on Fantas-tisch. Who says Christmas has to be all about green and red? You could recreate something similar with this tutorial I found here by meandmydiy.com.

Mondays, Maggie Muses: DIY Modern Holiday Wreaths

Hi, I’m Maggie. My husband (Legh) and I own re-souL.   I like to “muse” about things that inspire me.  Especially on Mondays.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, I was a little late on the store holiday decor.  I was going to do something simple this year, but was inspired by a diy I saw on Pinterest. I decided to give it a try.  After waiting for  hundreds of paper straws to be delivered, two forms and lots of hot glue,  I was ready to painstakingly put them together.  A few hours of patience and a couple of burnt fingertips later, we had our giant star burst wreaths for the windows! I really like the way they turned out in our re-souL colors of orange, aqua and white.

Mondays, Maggie Muses: Aqua, Red and White Christmas

Hi, I’m Maggie. My husband (Legh) and I own re-souL.   I like to “muse” about things that inspire me.  Especially on Mondays.

Tis the season and I should be all about red and green, right? Wrong. Well anybody who has been to our little shop knows we like the color aqua.  Alright, orange too.  But, as I am anxiously waiting for my supplies to be shipped to gussy up our windows. Wait!  “You don’t have your holiday decorations up already?”  I know, I’m late.  Anyway, I can’t help being infatuated with the vintage,  yet modern look of red, aqua and white. ( and a pale green ) It is so pretty and nostalgic.  Here are some of my favorite inspiration pics. What do you think?
