Mondays, Maggie Muses: Modern Open Coastal Homes

Hi, I’m Maggie. My husband (Legh) and I own re-souL.   I like to “muse” about things that inspire me.  Especially on Mondays.

When it is spring and our weather continues to be a persistent drippy mess, I muse about warmer climates, sunnier destinations and ocean waves.  I am after all a southern Cal gal by heart.   So I can’t help but look at pretty pictures of modern beach houses.

Take this house house from Architects EAT, the Elm and Willow House.  You would expect a house made of concrete, steel and glass to render itself cold, but this house has quite the opposite effect.  Its open floor plan around the trees on the property make it a very welcoming place.

This Southern House by Fergus Scott Architects has stunning vistas that  sweeps through 270 degrees of coastal landscape. It has a protected courtyard and an outdoor fireplace than can be enjoyed all year round.

This lovely “Timms’ Bach”  by Herbst Architects is an example of living in the open air. This “bach” or “beach home” walls open up to the outdoors. I love the dining room space, perfect for eating and entertaining al fresco.
